The city of Anchorage is located in the State of Alaska. It is the largest city in the state, with approximately 291,826 inhabitants (2010). The city is 5,079.2 square kilometers in size. It has been named the “All American City” by the National Civic League four times, with the most recent in 2002. Kiplinger has also named it the most tax friendly city throughout the entire United States.
There is much to see while in Anchorage, including the Alaska Native Heritage Center, Anchorage Zoo, Anchorage Museum of History and Art, and the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
Many visitors like to go on wildlife viewing tours while in Anchorage to see species like moose, dall sheep, and black bears. The Tony Knowles Coastal Trails offer some of the best views of the city for walking and biking enthusiasts. And of course, since it is Anchorage, Alaska, there are a plethora of skiing and snowboarding opportunities.
The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) is located 7.08 kilometers outside of downtown Anchorage. Most of the flights that come into the Anchorage airport are seasonal as it can be difficult to land during the winter months.
