Kansas, nicknamed the Sunflower State, is located in Midwestern United States and named after a Native American Tribe. The total state has a population of 2,871,238 inhabitants (2011) and is 213,096 square kilometers in size. The capital of Kansas is Topeka and the largest city is Wichita. Kansas has been nicknamed the “Heart of America” because of its geographic location, and is well known as one of the settings in the popular story “The Wizard of Oz.”
Some things to see include the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, which is the second largest space museum in the world. The city is also home to the annual Kansas State Fair. Topeka is home to the Brown v. Board of Education Museum and the Kansas Historical Society and Museum.

Eastern Kansas is where the larger cities are located and Flint Hills is where some of the last of the living grasslands of the Great Plains is located. Southeastern Kansas is part of the Ozarks region and offers some beautiful natural scenery.
