Orlando Airport guide
The Orlando International Airport (MCO) is located six miles from Orlando’s central business district. After the Miami International Airport, it is the second busiest airport within all of the state of Florida. It is listed as the thirteenth busiest airport in the United States and the twenty-ninth busiest airport around the world in regards to its passenger traffic. In 2010, the airport handled 34,877,899 passengers.
The reasoning behind its IATA code is because it used to be the McCoy Air Force Base. However, the Air Force stopped all its flight operations in 1975 and the airport switched its name.
Airlines that land and depart at the Orlando International Airport include Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air France, AirTran Airways, American Airlines, British Airways, Caribbean Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, US Airways, and Virgin America.
The top five international routes in 2010 were London, United Kingdom; Toronto, Canada; Manchester, United Kingdom; Panama City, Panama; and Frankfurt, Germany. The top five domestic routes were Atlanta, Georgia; New York, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Newark, New Jersey; and Detroit, Michigan.
